ABOUT THE BOOK

The anthology Dalit Men's Autobiographies: Convergences and Divergences comprises of twenty-nine critical studies done by various academicians on the select testimonial narratives recorded by Dalit men. These narratives document 'casteism' that is still prevalent in democratic India that rejects the Dalit identity. These real life narratives, being searing and sharp, highlight the Dalit struggle that has compelled the socially segregated Dalits to endure atrocious and in human subjugation in the compartmentalized Hindu society that oppresses them by taking the support of certain religious scriptures. These autobiographies strip the social niceties to shreds, and reveal the multiple oppression, sufferings, humiliation and pain, but also rebel against exploitation and prejudices by exposing them through literary voice. Hence the individual struggle of the Dalits in turn becomes the collective struggle for which India owes huge debt to Dalits. These auto-narratives instill consciousness and awakening and that's why it is hoped that this anthology will be very useful in the literary circle. ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Dr Bijender Singh (MA, MPhil, PhD, DLitt, UGC-NET, U-SET, M-SET, HP-SET, H-TET) is the Editor-in-Chief of The Expression: An International Multidisciplinary e-Journal. He has done Sanskrit Honours (Shastri), Art & Crafts Teacher Course and Multi-Purpose Health Worker (Male) Course. He has been the proud recipient of the Ambedkar Sahitya Ratna Award, Editorial Excellence Award, N.L.P. Samriti Samman and Dr B.R. Ambedkar National Award. He has written a few essays, some short-stories and many lyrics, ghazals, nazms and poems. He has published many articles in peer-reviewed/UGC approved/ CARE-listed national and international journals and edited anthologies. He has participated in many seminars and conferences as a keynote speaker, resource person and paper presenter. Many research papers/articles have been written and published on his poetry books from India and abroad. He has written/published more than thirty books. A few of his books are available in the library catalogues of Oxford University, British Library (UK), Central Library of Zurich (Switzerland), Stanford University, The University of Minnesota, The University of Chicago, Columbia University, The Library of Congress (USA) and many more world-class libraries.
