Aid economics has played a major role in shaping international relations.“Foreign Aid as Constraint in Decision Making: A study of American Aid to Egypt and Israel” examines the shift in conflictual policies of the two belligerent Nations. The pattern of the US aid has acted as an instrument of decision making in building a strategic relation beyond the typical USAID programme, which has shown different results in other parts of the world.
The scalability of the US aid to Egypt and Israel kept on changing beyond the measures of any other regions foreign aid programme. Foreign aid as constraint on decision making seems more appropriate after 1990-91 in the wake of the end of the Cold War and breakdown of USSR. This is also true in case of Kuwaiti crisis when Israel acted as a constraint on US policy. In the wake of regional dynamics, the US needed to cultivate not only Saudi Arabia but also Egypt. There are pressures on Israel by the US and the Western European countries to bring about a situation to the ArabIsraeli conflict and to achieve a comprehensive peace in this region.
It is interesting to note that the search of options in case of Egypt i.e. ArabIslamic aid, European and Russian aids remained a few highlights of future developments. In Israel, European aid, self-reliance schemes are some alternative features. Israel is seen as a nuclear power which uses it more as a deterrence and lever for foreign aid. Though the strategic importance of Israel has decreased but it is not ruled out in the wake of rising threat of Islamic fundamentalism. Israel offers lots of logistic accessibility and secret information of this region.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Dr. Jyoti Kumar is a 1995-96 batch PGD of Advertising and Public Relations from Indian Institute of Mass Communications, New Delhi. Joined in GAIL (India) Limited in year 1997, Dr Kumar has done Ph.D. from Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. He has Economics Honors in Graduation, and is a Post Graduate in Modern History and also an M Phil in International Relations. He has a reasonable long years of experience in the field of Corporate Communications, dealing with different issues of hydrocarbon value chain and making them relevant and simple in parlance for different publics at stake. He has followed three C Principle of communication in his style–credibility, connectivity and control, which has proved a successful communication strategy. His seminal thesis is converted into this book titled Foreign Aid as constraint of Decision Making: An American Aid to Egypt and Israel. Understandably it should become a reference academic read on the subject for researchers and the students of the West Asian and North African Studies. It has inspired him to work on seemingly connected area of geopolitical stratagem of political economy of international demand and supply of hydrocarbon and energy supply logistics. He is working on his another book on Petroleum Economics,which is on Geopolitics of Oil and Gas
specially the emerging dynamics of LNG Trad.
