ABOUT THE BOOK

The book provides excellent perspective on the different dimensions of higher education, and how it took shape during the pre- and postcolonial British rule, thanks to the meticulously carved milestones set up by the most eminent educationists and illustrious scholars like, S. Radhakrishnan, D. S. Kothari, Yash Pal and others. The book provides a much-needed orientation to college and university faculty by explaining the real meaning and spirit of higher education and its role in transformation of the society through human resource building. It also sheds light on the changing scenario of higher education in the 21st Century and the direction in which we should traverse. Therefore, the governing bodies, administrators and faculty members will find the book very valuable in accomplishing excellence in academic as well as administrative management of higher education institutions, the colleges and varsities.

 

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Srinivas K. Saidapur is a former Vice Chancellor of Karnatak University (2006-2010), and Founder Director (2015-2017) of Higher Education Academy (HEA) a Government of Karnataka enterprise set up at Dharwad for training Faculty members and Principal of 1st Grade / Degree Colleges on the lines of IAS training.  He placed the HEA on a sound footing by evolving its Vision & Mission and making massive plans for its infrastructure development. He is a distinguished scientist, Fellow of Population Council, New York (1976-77), USA,  Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, Germany (1988-89) and is a recipient of the India's most prestigious Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize (1991), Sir M. Vishveswaraya Award of Government of Karnataka for Lifetime Contribution to Science & Technology (2012) and many more. He was invited by the Ministry of Science & Technology, Government of Japan as visiting Scientist at National Institute for basic Biology, Okazaki (1999-2000).  He is a Fellow of the Indian Academy of Sciences, Bangalore, Indian National Science Academy (INSA), New Delhi and Third World Academy of Sciences (TWAS), Italy, National Academy of Sciences of India, Allahabad (NASI). He also served as the Vice President of INSA, New Delhi (2012-2014). He has edited two books: Reproductive Cycles of Indian Vertebrates (Allied Publishers, New Delhi, 1989) and Frontier Lectures in Biology by INSA Fellows- an E-book, 2015 (http://www.insa.nic.in).
